Adele Wins Songwriter of the Year at U.K.’s Ivor Novello Awards

Adele collected songwriter of the year honors at the 61st Ivor Novello Awards, held Thursday (May 19) in central London.

The British superstar was recognized for her third album 25 (XL), which sold more than 15 million units across all markets in a matter of weeks at the back end of 2015.

It’s the second time Adele has won the top award, after victory in 2012 following the release of 21 (she also won for most performed work that year).

The singer, who is currently touring Continental Europe in support of her latest album, gave thanks in a video message played for guests at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

“I won it on my last album as well… but I was secretly pregnant, so I didn’t enjoy the night too well,” she said, according to the BBC. “To win it this time is truly, truly humbling.”

The “Ivors,” as they’re fondly known, is the most cherished of the many galas on the British music industry calendar
