‘Empire’ Star Jussie Smollett Hints at Leaving the Show
Jussie Smollett, the actor and singer who plays the role of Jamal Lyon on Fox’s hit “Empire,” hinted at his exit from the show in a tweet Thursday, a day after the character stepped in front of a bullet meant for his dad Lucious in this season’s penultimate episode.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time w/ @EmpireFOX. I love you all. Truth. Time 2 make a record & some movies. #Empire,” Smollett tweeted.
Jamal was rushed to the hospital in Wednesday night’s episode after Freda Gatz, the daughter of an old frenemy to the Empire tycoon whom Lucious had killed, learned what really happened to her dad. She swiped a gun off a security guard and took aim at Lucious but Jamal stepped in front of him, trying in vain to diffuse the situation.
The actor’s announcement may be aimed at boosting ratings ahead of the show’s season finale next week
