Mos Def allowed to leave South Africa after being detained for 10-month
Mos Def is a free man.
The rapper, who now goes by the name Yasiin Bey, is finally allowed to leave South Africa after apologizing to the government for breaking immigration laws.
In January he was detained for using a “world passport” as he tried to leave the country.
He had been living in Cape Town with his family since 2013.
South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs had said Bey entered the country in 2013 as an American, but then overstayed on an expired visa.
The 42-year-old has been dubbed an “undesirable person” and won’t be allowed re-entry to South Africa, the country’s Home Affairs Department said on Twitter.
