‘The Voice’ Star Christina Grimmie Shot Dead At Her Orlando Concert
Christina Grimmie, a season six contestant on The Voice, has died after being shot late Friday at her own concert.
According to a police spokeswoman, the 22-year-old singer was signing autographs near a merchandise table when a man with two guns walked up and shot her.
Police said that the 22-year-old singer had performed with the band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando. The concert ended about 10pm, and Grimmie was shot as she signed autographs for fans at a merchandise table.
Grimmie’s brother immediately tackled the gunman, who then shot and killed himself during the struggle,
Just hours prior to her death, Grimmie posted a video to Twitter asking fans in the Orlando, FL area to come out and see her perform as the opening act for the band, Before You Exit.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando, and unfortunately didn’t survive the gun shot wounds,” Grimme’s rep, Heather Walsh revealed in an email“We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.”
Grimmie, who was born in New Jersey, finished third during season six of the US series of The Voice, competing on the team of Maroon 5 star Adam Levine
The Voice paid tribute to Grimmie on its official Twitter page: “There are no words. We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice.”
