Kendrick Lamar is on a mission to help you understand what the legacy of Basketballer Kobe Bryant has meant to the City of Angels.

The Compton-bred rapper performed a special tribute for the Los Angeles Lakers star written by ESPN’s Robert “Scoop” Jackson and simply titled “Kobe Bryant: Fade to black.”

The performance is mixed with the seventh track off the hip hop artist’s untitled unmastered. album, perhaps better known as “Levitate.” A handful of his most storied career highlights are woven into a video of Lamar at The Forum in Inglewood, where the Lakers played until the 1999-2000 season. He will play his final career game against the Utah Jazz at Staples Center on tonight, wednesday.
