Yuna is the first Malaysian nominated for BET Awards, against Mary J Blige, Solange.
Singer-songwriter Yuna has another feather in her cap – she is now the first Malaysian artiste to be nominated for a BET (Black Entertainment Television) award.
The 30-year-old Alor Setar-born Yuna, now based in Los Angeles, received a nomination for the BET Centric Award for Crush, her duet with Usher, from her latest album Chapters.
Yuna is up against Solange’s Cranes In The Sky, Mary J. Blige (Thick Of It), Fantasia (Sleeping With The One I Love), Kehlani (Distraction) and Syd’s All About Me.
The BET Awards is an annual awards ceremony by the BET network, which celebrates African Americans and other minorities in various fields of entertainment.
The Centric Award recognises neo soul and/or traditional R&B songs and videos. Previous winners have included the likes of Beyonce, The Weeknd and Common.
This year’s awards ceremony will take place on June 25 in the United States.
