Who says mixing business and pleasure doesn’t work? Because forCamila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, it’s proved to be a potent pairing.
Because, the duo have just snatched the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Señorita.’
The new couple… bumped last week’s #1 ‘Bad Guy’ by Billie Eilish to #2. Both releases had been trailing Lil Nas X’s record-breaking ‘Old Town Road’ for weeks and have now both reached pole position.
‘Señorita,’ which – though co-billed – was released by Mendes’ label Republic – serves as his first Hot 100 #1 (after nabbing five top 10s). It functions as the second for Cabello following ‘Havana’s ascend to the top, which climaxed in January last year.
The single achieved the feat on the back of 102.4 million US radio impressions, 37.5 million streams, and 22,000 digital downloads. All accrued domestically in the latest tracking week.
Its Stateside success comes in the wake of its six week reign atop of the Official UK Singles Chart.
As for the length of its reign, Mendes and Cabello will perform the song tonight at the MTV Video Music Awards. Hence, it’ll likely benefit from the potency of that platform. Still, it’s now tasked with holding off Lizzo‘s ‘Truth Hurts’ – which continues to gather steam and has risen #4-#3 on the coveted count.
