Beyonce’s “Spirit” Slips Out Of Hot 100 In Week 2!

Beyond its domination of the movie box office (racking up over $1 billion globally as, the live action remake of ‘The Lion King’ is being celebrated for its contributions to the music realm as well.  In addition to cracking the top 15 of the Billboard 200 with its official soundtrack, Pop superstar Beyonce – who stars as ‘Nala’ in the film –  debuted at #2 on the same chart with her new project, ‘The Gift’.

Following the re-entry of 2016’s ‘Lemonade’ and her live album, ‘Homecoming,’ ‘The Gift’ came as her third trip to the top 10 of the tally this year alone.  And, while its lead single – the anthemic ‘Spirit’ – sent fans soaring into a frenzy upon the release of its colorful, African-influenced music video, its roar may be proving bigger than its bite.

The good news?  Its #98 debut on last week’s Hot 100 marked a career milestone for the diva as it became her 79th placement on the tally, 61st as a solo artist.  With ‘Spirit’s appearance on the chart she temporarily tied Taylor Swift for second place among women with the most Hot 100 hits (Nicki Minaj rests in first place).

The bad news? ‘Spirit’ vanished its second week.  However, its disappearance – which occurred the week its parent album charted – saw it replaced with 2 more gems from the set.  The result?  Bey, now with 81 placements over her illustrious career, distanced herself from Swift to claim sole ownership of the second place title for most Hot 100 hits (among women).
